On October 1, 2013, the federal government entered into a partial shutdown. As of today, it is not clear how long this shutdown will last, nor what kinds of effects it might have on early care and education. A brief shutdown may have only minor effects, but a shutdown longer than a week could make major impacts to early care and education.

The Early Care and Education Consortium has posted updates on possible effects of the shutdown on many programs for young children, including Child Care and Development Block Grant, Head Start, Title I funds, and IDEA Part B. To learn more about how these federal programs may be affected by a prolonged government shutdown, check out the Early Care and Education Consortium Federal Action Center.
