Owner/Director, Lina Lane’s Learning Center Family Child Care Home

Lina Lane GAYC Spotlight 2Why did you become a GAYC member?

I became a GAYC Member because I want to be a part of an organization that cares about children and children issues just as much as I do. GAYC has a distinctive and successful reputation and, as a member, I represent that distinction and I can make meaningful contributions to our shared cause.

Tell us about your work with young children.

As an Early Childcare Education (ECE) professional with over 20 years of national and international experience, I have worked in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Dubai. I have endeavored to distinguish myself as an educator who is dedicated to serving my community, supporting my fellow professionals, and making significant contributions to the ECE agenda and the families it serves. As one of the few Asians in the profession, I own a Family Childcare home with 6 children. Growing children is my passion!

What is your favorite part of your ECE job and why?

The best part of my ECE career is watching children grow from infancy into pre-K. It s absolutely amazing (and it never gets old) to watch them connect with the world, learn about life and develop their personalities. I enjoy this because my part of providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment is important and impactful. I actually get to make a significant and lasting difference in their lives.

Lina Lane GAYC SpotlightShare one way a child has inspired you.

I had one child in my care who was two years old. He had never spoken a word. One day I gave him some milk and I asked him to say “thank you.” He actually tried and after several attempts, he spoke as clearly as all the other kids. Sensing that this was different, I videotaped the incident and sent it to his parents. The mother called me crying and thanked me for sharing that moment. The determination of that child to speak was an inspiration and a reminder to never give up on a child – any child.

What is your dream for the future of early childhood education?

My dream is to use my experience and passion to own, operate, and manage 3 full time child care centers in the greater Atlanta areas within the next 5 years. I want to be a key figure in promoting the ECE Agenda and managing / working with people who share my same passion for our profession.

What’s your favorite book and why?

Brown Bear, Brown Bear is my favorite book because the children love it and we all learn so much from the many, many discussions.
